Tuesday 11 October has been designated Woodland Social Enterprise Day. The Ecotherapy Group at Foundry Wood will be participating in this event by spending their weekly session producing woodland themed crafts for sale. This helps raise funds for the group as well as providing a therapeutic activity for session participants.

The Ecotherapy Group meet every Tuesday between 10am – 3pm at Foundry Wood Community Woodland, on Princes Drive in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. The group aims to support people struggling with their mental or physical health to get out of the house and enjoy time in nature.

Theresa Johnston, one of the founding members of Ecotherapy at Foundry Wood said “Many studies have shown that being outdoors is good for physical and mental health. The opportunity to socialise with others is also beneficial, and part of the day involves sharing a meal together.”

The group regularly produce quality craft items, including handmade paper cards, scented bath bombs and soaps, twig and leaf decorated tea light holders and wooden key rings. These are sold through Gaia Wholefoods on Regent Place, Leamington and at community events held at Foundry Wood.

Participating in Woodland Social Enterprise Day helps to raise awareness about the Ecotherapy Group, and demonstrates that small craft enterprise can contribute to participants’ wellbeing, as well as contributing to the financial sustainability of the project. The group is open to new participants. Please visit www.foundrywood.co.uk/ecotherapy for more details.

Foundry Wood is one of forty-three woodlands selected for support under the Making Local Woods Work initiative, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and delivered by Plunkett Foundation with a range of partners. Community organisation ARC, who co-manage the woodland and run the Ecotherapy Group, will receive mentoring support to realise their vision of working with local people to create and maintain green spaces and improve their health and wellbeing.
